Introduction

ECHIM is a three-year project to develop and implement health indicators and health monitoring in the EU and all EU Member States. It continues the work of the previous ECHI and ECHIM projects, and ends on 31.12.2011. ECHIM is funded by the European Union Second Programme of Community Action in the Field of Health 2008–2013 through the Joint Action.

Most of the practical work is carried out by the central secretariat in Helsinki (THL) and by the other four secretariats in Berlin (RKI), Bilthoven (RIVM), Rome (ISS) and Vilnius (LSIC). The collaborating partners are from Belgium, Czech Republic, Estonia, Greece, Ireland, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom and WHO. The ECHIM Core Group consists of more than 30 people in total.

Please note that there are two websites for the ECHIM project. This website www.echim.org is the information forum of the project: it contains all key facts and contact information as well as the most important working documents, meeting materials and the project's newsfeed. The ECHIM Products website (www.healthindicators.eu) contains the most important product of the project, the ECHI shortlist of 88 indicators and their metadata.
